Before we get stuck in, I do want to clarify what Albury-Wodonga is referring to.
Albury and Wodonga are twin cities that straddle the state border of Victoria and New South Wales with the Murray River being the border and separating Albury and Wodonga.
Albury is on the north bank of the Murray and is in New South Wales. Wodonga is on the south bank in Victoria.
The cities are right next to each other and you can easily visit any of the things to do in Wodonga while staying in Albury and vice versa. This means that from a traveller’s perspective, you can somewhat view them as the same place, and there is no reason not to visit attractions in both cities.

Take In The Views At Monument Hill
Address: Memorial Drive, Albury

Monument Hill is near the centre of Albury and is the place to go for views (or if you want a work out!).
This World War I monument is quite striking, being very tall. You can see it along the main road of Albury very clearly.
You can either walk up Monument Hill or drive. It’s an easy drive or a strenuous walk.
Discover And Explore In Albury Botanic Gardens
Address: Dean Street and Wodonga Pl, Albury
Opening hours: Daily from 6:30am to 7pm

The Albury Botanic Gardens are a great place to relax or have a picnic. They are nowhere near the biggest gardens I have been to but they are well presented with over 100 species.
There is also a nice childrens garden area with a big (and baby) dinosaur and other garden attractions to keep them entertained.
Appreciate Art At Murray Art Museum (MAMA)

The Murray Art Museum is one of the most visited outside Sydney and has a reputation for being innovative and original. It features some of the best Australian contemporary artists.
Located in the downtown area of Albury, it is very easy to visit with up to six exhibitions at any one time and a focus on living artists and stories that are relevant for today.
It’s a must visit destination for any art lover.
Unwind In Noreuil Park
Address: Wodonga Pl, Albury

Noreuil Park Foreshore is a great place to visit for anyone who wants to enjoy a park area by the Murray. Located close to a bridge from Wodonga and near Albury CBD, it is also an easy place to visit.
Here you will find a big green area with shady trees, BBQs and picnic tables. Noreuil Park is also home to Oddies Creek Park which is a great playground for all age kids with many different play areas that all my kids aged 4-10 enjoyed.

Check Out The Army Equipment In Army Museum Bandiana

If you like military museums, you won’t want to miss Army Museum Bandiana, the largest army museum in Australia with 5,000 square metres of displays under one roof.
On display, you will find many uniforms from WWI to today. 150 weapons and over 150 military vehicles including armoured vehicles, trucks, cars and bikes. It’s a huge collection.
There are limited opening hours so I suggest ringing ahead.
Cool Off At Albury Swim Centre

If you are visiting in hot weather, you won’t want to miss Albury Swim Centre. Here you can find a range of outdoor pools including a toddler pool as well as a big water slide. You can have a picnic on site or your own BBQ and there is also a kiosk.
Experience The Wonga Wetlands
Address: 2377 Riverina Hwy, Splitters Creek

Located just a 7 minute drive from the centre of Albury, Wonga Wetlands are another world.
The wetlands are on the Murray River floodplain in an area which is being restored from grazing land using treated wastewater. It is a system of lagoons and billabongs that cover an area of 80 hectares. It’s home to a variety of wildlife and trees.
You are likely to see and experience different things at different times of year with summer leading to the area possibly drying out whereas in winter the wetlands are likely to be full and home to pelicans and swans.
It’s a great spot for people who enjoy nature and birdwatchers. We had an enjoyable walk with our kids across bridges and aboriginal sites. There are some useful information boards as well.
Experience Nature On The Wagirra Trail
Address: Kremur Street, West Albury

The Wagirra Trail is a 15 kilometre return walk from the South Albury trail by Noreuil Park to the Wonga Wetlands. This walking and cycling path is a great way to enjoy this part of the world with plenty of places to stop and have a picnic and enjoy.
You can also walk part of the trail only. We drove to Kremur Street Boat Ramp where we could park the car and walk part of the section known as the Yindyamarra Sculpture Walk which runs between here and the Wonga Wetlands.
Here sculptures have been installed by local Aboriginal artists. They have information panels and videos you can watch on your phone which teach you the history and cultural significance of the Murray River.
Walk The High Country Rail Trail
Address: High Country Rail Trail, Tallangatta

If 15 kilometres isn’t enough, head to the High Country Rail Trail. It is a 78 kilometre trail from Wodonga to Shelley that passes by the shores of Lake Hume on an old rail line which means you aren’t riding walking alongside roads all the time.
It’s quite an easy trail until Tallangatta. From Koetong to Shelley, the trail gets quite steep at the steepest gradient trains could travel.
Again, you can enjoy just part of the trail. We walked along a section near Lake Hume while we were visiting this part of the region. A popular part to walk is the Sandy Creek Bridge.

If you are looking for things to do around Albury, head to Lake Hume. Lake Hume (or Hume Dam) is located about 16 kilometres east of Albury, and it’s a lovely spot which is perfect for a picnic.
At the lake you can go fishing, camping, do water sports and have a picnic. It’s a great place for kayaking or stand up paddleboarding.

Walk The Dam Wall of Lake Hume
Address: Lake Hume, Victoria, Albury Wodonga

Lake Hume is also called Hume Dam and was built in the years after World War I with over 1000 men working on the project. When the dam was finished in 1936, it was the largest dam in the Southern Hemisphere.
Today, you can visit this dam wall and sometimes it is open so you can walk along – not just across the lake but between Victoria and New South Wales.
On the NSW side, there is a viewing platform which has lovely views of the lake and countryside as well as the dam flowing into the Murray River.
Take The Bonegilla Migrant Experience

One of the most interesting Albury-Wodonga tourist attractions is the Bonegilla Migrant Experience.
Located in Bonegilla, 10 kilometres east of Wodonga, this is where Australia’s first migrant reception centre was established at the end of World War II. Over it’s 24 years of operation, it was home to around 320,000 migrants from more than 30 countries.
How’s this for an amazing statistic – it’s estimated 1 in 20 Australians have a link to this place.
At this site, you can visit some of the preserved buildings that remain and learn from the lives of individual stories of people who spent time here. There are guided tours as well as self-guided or just walking around the site.
While you are here and in the area, also look out for kangaroos! We saw quite a few around here.

Taste Rutherglen Wines
Rutherglen is located only 30 minutes west of Wodonga and is the perfect place to visit for some wine tasting during your Albury-Wodonga stay.
There are many wineries in this region and it’s easy to make a day of this. You can find a cellar door map here.
Canoe Down The Murray River
The gentle waters of the Murray River are the perfect place to take a canoe ride. In warmer months this is one of the top things to do in Albury Wodonga.
There are two companies that will hire you a canoe – Canoe The Murray (who also offer kayak hire) and Murray River Canoe Hire (one of the top Albury-Wodonga attractions).
You can hire canoes half day or full day or take a guided tour down the Murray River. Even with no experience, this is a relaxing way to spend a day and a unique way to see the sites of the Murray River.

BEST – Mantra Albury Hotel Review
Mantra Albury Hotel is the region’s top corporate, meetings, and leisure hotel, and offers modern accommodations that feature both style and function.
Located at Volt Lane precinct of the CBD, this seven-storey hotel offers spacious rooms with flat-screen TV, air conditioning, a kitchenette, and a private bathroom.
Guests can also dine at the property’s in-house restaurant. Other facilities include a gym, executive lounge, and spacious conference facilities.
Complimentary outdoor parking is available right next to the hotel, but it’s only available at limited times.

All rooms are also equipped with a refrigerator, toaster, kettle, and free toiletries. Room types range from double rooms to queen rooms.
Guests can also play billiards. Other facilities include an in-house restaurant, garden, and bar.

How To Get To Albury-Wodonga
It’s easy to get to Albury-Wodonga by car from just about anywhere. If you have your own car, great! You are good to go.
Albury-Wodonga is also easy to reach by bus or train from the main population centres such as Melbourne and Sydney.
Things To Do In Albury-Wodonga For Kids
Albury-Wodonga is a great place to visit with kids. I know because I have done it many times!
Many of the attractions we’ve listed above make excellent Albury attractions for kids, so if you’re scouring for the best things to do in Albury for kids, consider all of these. However, if you are looking for some extra fun kids activities Albury-Wodonga, keep reading! I have some more fun Albury things to do with kids coming up.
Totally Fun Park
When you are looking for total kid fun, you can’t go wrong at the Totally Fun Park in Wodonga.
At this park, you’ll find virtual reality games, mini golf, big jumping castles, train rides, laser tags and water attractions like a water slide and a splash area. My younger kid also loved the bubble disco. We first visited in summer and it is a great place to cool down!
Currently closed for renovation, we couldn’t visit on our last trip but we look forward to seeing what it’s like when it reopens.
Supaworld Wodonga
Supaworld Wodonga is definitely my kids top pick of what to do in Albury with kids. Located in West Wodonga, this indoor playcentre has many activities for all aged kids from an indoor playground, many trampoline areas, climbing walls, high obstacle courses and an air mat that all three of my kids loved doing flips on to from a platform!
It’s well done with people around to help whenever we needed it and lots of fun. With three kids of varying ages, I appreciated the help, especially when they were all wall climbing. The different activities worked great for all my kids aged 4 – 10 although the 4 year old couldn’t do the high obstacle course.
The site itself is a great size – big enough for a lot of variety but not that big meaning it wasn’t completely stressful for me to keep track of the three of them.
You pay by the hour. My kids were so active that one hour had them sweaty and tired (even though it was a very cold day) and was a good timeframe for us. You do have to wear their socks to use the equipment which are an extra $3 each.
If you are looking for additional Albury-Wodonga kids activities, there are also several play centres. Two to try are Rumbles Tumbles Indoor Play Centre in North Albury and Supatramp in West Wodonga. Your kids will also love Belvoir Park Playground in Wodonga and Oddies Creek Park.
Escape Room Albury
If you want to do something as a family, the Escape Room is one of the great Albury tourist attractions. This is basically a room which you have 60 minutes to escape from by looking for clues and solving a range of puzzles.
These rooms can be fairly tricky to escape from so they encourage team work to escape which is why it’s one of the great things to do with kids in Albury. Rooms are themed such as ‘The Heist’ and ‘Baker Street Mystery’.
They have both indoor and outdoor rooms so it’s good for any weather. Note that it is not one of the toddler activities Albury-Wodonga offers, but it is great for kids 8 years and older.
